Painting & Drawingl

Seth Damm sees the role of an artist as a worm. Someone who aerates the soil of culture. Whether it is time spent painting in his studio or creating richly layered interactive environments in surprising contexts, Damm seeks to enliven the conduits of the imagination in a humorous and passionate way, always searching for a point of connection to the people and environment around him.

His most recent work has focused on three dimensional constructions, such as his Awnings series, which he presents to gallery audiences as an alter-ego, the awning-mustache wearing Austrian aesthete, "Frederick".

He has worked on various projects from plaster murals and interiors with Seattle artist Tina Randolph, to an award winning mural in San Francisco, as a puppeteer in a month long tour through the Southern U.S., and at Jazz Fest in New Orleans, where he returns each year to serve as a crew leader on set design and art installation.

Most recently, along with Gina Coffman and Flynn Bickley, Damm founded the Art Lending Library in Seattle. This art collective's mission is to connect the community to its artists through a free system of art lending and borrowing.

Damm is a native of the Pacific Northwest, and currently lives in an old elementary school turned artist's residence in Seattle. He has also lived in London, New Orleans, Oaxaca, Mexico, and San Francisco. He received a B.A. from The Evergreen State College in 1994, with an emphasis in printmaking.
